Scan for the rarest letter in the word list first — Q, Z, and X appear in few grid positions, so anchoring on them finds words faster than reading row by row. Once you spot a word, trace its direction and check neighboring letters along the same line: puzzle authors love hiding two words on one diagonal. Finish by sweeping for the short words everyone forgets.
